The Story from the Underside

The Story From the Underside is a journey through Matthew’s Gospel which seeks to hear it from the perspective of the margins. Over four weeks we will explore the story and our place in it.

Details: Tuesday May 31, June 7, 14 & 21, at 7.30pm AEST, Online.

Where you stand determines what you see. The way that we see and experience life is shaped by our place in it – our cultural perspective, our socio-economic standing, our gender, our family life, and so on.

Where we stand shapes the way we read the Bible too – the ways our imaginations interpret its stories, the kinds of questions it stirs in us, the ways we understand its message.

The Bible is a collection of writings composed largely by those on the underside – the poor, the oppressed, and those who stood with them. Yet many of us read these stories, letters, and poems from places of relative power and privilege. What would happen if we began to hear in these stories the voices of the poor and the oppressed? How might we understand what the Good News looks like to them?
